In my opinion, this looks like a good idea. I am a Junior, so I haven't done my culminating project yet, but the room for creativity makes it so that we can invent things, discover things, write reports on things, resolve issues, the list is endless. It should stay, it probably takes up a lot of time, but is well rewarding because you can do something that relates to your future job, learning enough so you know if you want to do it for forty years, potentially saving money on education.
